SIS Global takes on iconic yacht race
For those of you who know anything about ocean sailing then you will probably have heard of the iconic Cape 2 Rio yacht race which has been run for the last 46 years. On New Year's Day 2017, this great yachting event will again set sail from Cape Town and we are very pleased to let you know that our friend and AXpact colleague, Robert Hawley, will taking part in what is sure to be a fantastic adventure!
Rob, who is the CEO of our South African member, SIS Global, will be taking on this mammoth challenge for the second time, having completed the race in 2014. He will be joined by his SIS Global colleague, Shaun Verster as part of a crew of 6 on board the Voortrekker II. Voortrekker is a racing yacht with a famous history: it was built by the South African Navy in 1983 and has been sailed by some of South Africa's greatest sailors. The yacht has been in dock in Cape Town for the last few months undergoing a full refit in preparation for the race.
Rob and Shaun will be sailing in support of a charity which is very close to the hearts of the SIS Global family. IMAGINE, is a charity focused on the Cerebral Palsy Community in South Africa and provides both financial and indirect support to those who suffer from Cerebral Palsy, their families and their caregivers. Rob will be keeping us all up to date via a daily blog so you can follow our intrepid sailors on www.robscapetorio.com - we hope that you enjoy the daily updates and will consider supporting this fantastic cause.
SIS Global, who are one of AXpact's longest serving members, is a proud sponsor of Voortrekker II and we are all looking forward to seeing their name proudly displayed on the boat as she tracks across the Atlantic Ocean, flying the flag for the Imagine Charity. All involved with Axpact would like to wish Robert, Shaun and the rest of the crew great success for the race and we hope that they travel safely and remember the words of George William Curtis; "It is not the ship as much as the skilful sailing that assures the prosperous voyage".
